Our students are a stand for our communities

The School of the Way is free and at the same time, “nothing in life worth having is free.”

Our students take a stand for their communities by doing monthly community service projects such as cleaning the streets, alleys, and playgrounds, and posting flyers for the school. Students collectively decide what is important for them as members of their communities and the teachers support their decisions with their own sweat and labor, as well as logistical help from parents.

On one level, the kids are simply picking up trash in the neighborhood in order to “pay” their tuition. On a whole different level they are taking responsibility for their own education and becoming lifelong leaders in their community.

Community service is our students’ tuition—and they pay it themselves.
